5 Best Mushroom Coffees For An Alternative Morning Pick-Me-Up (2026)
Lion's mane latte, anyone? We checked every label so you don't have to.

The 'shroom boom is in full swing. Walk through any health food shop or scroll for five minutes and you can't move for fungi-infused brews, all promising the energy of coffee without the crash.
Some of them are serious formulas. Some are ordinary coffee with a pinch of mushroom powder and a lot of branding. The difference is on the label — so that's exactly where we looked. We compared the five most popular mushroom coffees in the UK, line by line, against the doses used in the research.

Every product was scored on five equally weighted criteria: doses (how much, in what form, and whether it's printed), energy without the crash, taste, price per cup, and label honesty.
Scores are based on each brand's own published labels and prices, checked on 1 July 2026, compared against the doses used in published research. We show the rows each product loses as well as the rows it wins. Nutritionist James Herd reviewed the assessment.

VYVE Nootropic & Mushroom Super Coffee

"I've become more active and thinking a lot clearer as a 67 year old it's fantastic"Leonard H., verified buyer
Our winner is the only coffee on this list where every ingredient sits at the dose the studies used — and every dose is printed on the pack. Eight ingredients, eight numbers, no blends.
The formula pairs 120mg of natural caffeine with 200mg of L-Theanine — the most studied pairing in this category, linked to steady, calm alertness rather than a spike and a slump. On top sit a full gram each of Lion's Mane, Cordyceps and L-Tyrosine, Cognizin® Citicoline at 600mg, KSM-66 ashwagandha at 360mg, and 3g of inulin, which makes it the only drink here with gut support.
It comes in three flavours — Coffee, Mocha and Salted Caramel — and whisks into hot water and milk like the drink it replaces. In VYVE's customer survey of 1,000 people, 92% said they would recommend it, 88% felt more focused and 85% felt less stressed within 14 days.*
Expert verdict: This is the clearest label in the category. Every dose is printed, every dose matches the research, and the caffeine is properly paired. There is no weak row on this one. — James Herd, Nutritionist
Pros
- All 8 ingredients at studied doses — the only full-dose formula here
- Every dose printed. No blends
- 120mg caffeine paired with 200mg L-Theanine
- Only drink on this list with gut support (inulin, 3g)
- 76p per cup on a 3-pack subscription, with free Thermal Cup & Whisk
Cons
- Online only — not in supermarkets
- Newer brand than the biggest names here
- Powder format — you'll want the (free) whisk

Spacegoods Rainbow Dust

The strongest mushroom line-up of the four challengers. Lion's Mane, Cordyceps and Chaga all come in at a full 1000mg, and the ashwagandha is KSM-66 at 300mg — the studied form at a studied dose.
Where it gives ground to our winner is everything around the mushrooms. The 80mg of caffeine has no L-Theanine alongside it, there's no citicoline or L-Tyrosine, nothing for your gut, and the maca sits at 250mg when studies used far more. The Chocolate flavour also carries stevia, which not everyone wants. At around £1.13 per cup it's the most expensive drink here.
Expert verdict: Real mushroom doses and the right ashwagandha — genuinely well done. But the caffeine is unpaired and the focus ingredients are missing, so it's a strong second rather than a winner. — James Herd, Nutritionist
Pros
- Three mushrooms at a full 1000mg each
- KSM-66 ashwagandha at 300mg
- Wide flavour range, big following, in Holland & Barrett and Boots
Cons
- 80mg caffeine with no L-Theanine to smooth it
- No citicoline, no L-Tyrosine, no gut support
- Stevia in the Chocolate flavour
- Highest price per cup on this list

DIRTEA Coffee Super Blend

The cheapest cup on the list, and an honest one as far as it goes: arabica coffee with a full 1000mg of organic Lion's Mane and a 50mg pinch of maca.
That's also the whole story. One functional ingredient at a working dose, around 50mg of caffeine with nothing paired to it, no adaptogens at meaningful amounts, and nothing for your gut. It's cheap per cup because there's less in the cup — a good Lion's Mane coffee rather than a full formula.
Expert verdict: If all you want is Lion's Mane in a decent coffee at the lowest price, this does that job well. Just be clear that's the only job it's doing. — James Herd, Nutritionist
Pros
- Lion's Mane at a full 1000mg, organic
- Lowest price per cup here
- Easy to find in shops
Cons
- Only one fully dosed functional ingredient
- Maca at 50mg is a token amount
- About 50mg caffeine, no L-Theanine
- No gut support

London Nootropics Flow

Single sachets you can drop in a bag, a genuinely pleasant coffee taste, and an unusually honest label — every milligram is printed and the extracts are branded and standardised.
The problem is what those milligrams say. Lion's Mane comes in at 250mg — a quarter of the dose the studies used — and Rhodiola at 83mg. Two functional ingredients, both below studied levels, with 80 to 110mg of unpaired caffeine, at around £1 a sachet.
Expert verdict: Full marks for transparency — this label hides nothing. But a sachet can only hold so much, and this one holds a quarter of what the research used. — James Herd, Nutritionist
Pros
- Exact doses printed, branded standardised extracts
- Genuinely convenient sachet format
- Tastes like a normal coffee
Cons
- Lion's Mane at 250mg — a quarter of the studied dose
- Only two functional ingredients
- 80–110mg caffeine, no L-Theanine
- About £1.00 for two under-dosed ingredients

SoulBrew Rise

An organic, caffeine-free cacao blend with a long ingredient list: mushrooms, ashwagandha, maca, and a rack of kitchen spices, sweetened with coconut nectar.
What the label doesn't tell you is how much of any of it you're getting. No doses are published for a single ingredient, which makes every functional claim impossible to check. As a gentle evening-style cacao ritual it's pleasant. As a coffee replacement it isn't really trying — there's no caffeine and no way to verify what is in there.
Expert verdict: With no doses published, there is nothing to assess. A label you can't check is a label you can't trust — that's the whole review. — James Herd, Nutritionist
Pros
- Organic, sweetened with coconut nectar
- Gentle on the stomach
- 60-day money-back guarantee
Cons
- No doses printed for any ingredient
- No caffeine — this won't replace coffee's energy
- Ashwagandha with no form and no dose
- About £1.00 a cup for unverifiable amounts

Why the winner's label reads differently
Eight ingredients, eight printed doses — and every one at the amount the studies used. The bars show each dose against its study benchmark.
The most studied pairing in this category — the lift of a full coffee, without the edge or the 3pm slump. VYVE is the only drink on this list that pairs its caffeine.
